WHO WE ARE
Although their boats may look different—and they may be headed to different ports—my favorite thing is watching women go out into the world. And the world is better for it.
This is the reason I started Field Trip. I want engaged, curious, passionate women out in the world. Making their mark. Feeling comfortable, confident, beautiful, and at ease with themselves.
I do not want them held back by their clothing.
I do not want them spending one more minute indecisively in their closets. Or taking days to pack for a trip. Nor do I want them settling for clothing that "looks the part" but is uncomfortable or doesn't reflect their unique personalities. I don't want them changing outfits multiple times a day (who has time for that?). I do not want them falling back on a uniform of athleisure wear because it is "easy", then turning down opportunities because they are too embarrassed to run into someone they know.
A couple of years ago, this was me.
So I set out to make it easier for women to be well-dressed...without sacrificing quality, style, comfort, and ease of care. So they can get dressed quickly, stay dressed all day, and look like put-together grown-ups in the process. Clothing that goes further...so women can go farther.
Here's to spending less time getting dressed and more time making your mark in the world.

FIELD TRIP
I love the sense of wonderment that these two words conjure up. Remember those field trips as a kid—the anticipation of the unknown, an openness to receive and experience whatever the day will hold, and the camaraderie of a shared experience was magical. For me and for many women I know, it still is. That is who I am making clothes for. Women who are curious, engaged with, and excited about life, who want to approach every day as a field trip whether they are going to Portugal or the pharmacy.
So what is the proper clothing for the field trip of busy adulthood?
As a kid, we received a list of "recommended clothing" for these field trips. This list was my first insight into how my attire could embolden my confidence for the day’s adventure. With the proper clothing, I felt I could handle anything a field trip could throw at me.
Back then, this clothing simply needed to stand up to the elements and keep you comfortable. But as a grown woman, I need more than comfort and functionality (i.e. athleisure wear) to feel confident. I want to look appropriate—and feel beautiful—throughout a day that might alternate between being a carpool driver, business owner, last-minute lunch date, community volunteer, evening meal chef, amateur therapist, sports fan, and bedtime story reader.
Our shirts are just this—a beautiful, grown-up version of those confidence-inspiring childhood field trip uniforms. I want curious, engaged women “going farther into the world” to have clothing that supports all the adventures of their day.
Clothing that goes further so women can go farther.

HOW WE MAKE OUR PRODUCTS
We’ve invested time and thoughtfulness into the sourcing of our fabrics, the development of our silhouettes, and the craftsmanship of our production to ensure that each design is beautiful, comfortable, functional, easy to care for, and made to last.
We also believe that respect for people and planet are pivotal to the process.
We choose fabrics that are beautiful, but also feel great, are easy to care for, are versatile, and last.
Quality
Our fabrics are made by some of the most renowned mills in Europe, whose multi-decades of experience and dedication to doing things the right way result in superior textiles.
All of our mills are part of the Better Cotton Initiative.
Feel great
All of our fabrics are natural, breathable, soft, shape retentive, color-fast, and free of harmful chemicals like formaldehyde or ammonia.
And they are never see through.
Easy care
Our fabrics are machine- and hand- washable and quick drying (most will air dry in under 1.5 hours). This reduces the energy needed to launder, eliminates the financial and environmental impacts of dry cleaning, and means that you can wash and quickly dry your clothes almost anywhere.
Versatile
We’ve started with classic hues that are suitable for year-round wear and work with what’s already in your closet.
We pay attention to five points of fit so that each silhouette will comfortably take you from dawn to dusk and pair with everything from shorts to suiting. Making it easier for you to get — and stay — well-dressed no matter what your day holds.
OUR FIVE POINTS OF FIT
Sleeve Length
We design sleeves to flatter and allow for comfortable movement and minimal fuss. We believe in seeing your watch, bending your arms, and avoiding sleeves in your dishwater...without having to roll (and re-roll) cuffs all day.
Arm Opening
Cut for air flow, but structured enough to fit under a blazer or sweater. And never any pinching in the armpits.
Back Width
Whether we use a bias cut to add stretch without adding volume, a rounder cut to keep fabric away from the body, or a fabric with natural stretch, our goal is to have you reaching all day with ease.
Hip Width
We utilize side vents, curved front hemlines and curved side seams to provide movement in the hips (and avoid the “faux roll” in the stomach area) while remaining tailored.
Body Length
Graduated front-to-back lengths keep things structured in front and longer in back so you can reach up and bend down with coverage while still remaining tailored.
Our emphasis is on craftsmanship and respect.
We partner with pattern makers experienced in both haute couture and high-end ready-to-wear lines to ensure the details are both luxurious and hardworking. We partner with factories and mills who are committed to the preservation, practice, and building of their crafts.
We also believe in paying artisans their worth. Each of our shirts is patterned, cut, and sewn in a small living-wage factory in North Carolina. You can find out more about our amazing factory here.
We produce our shirts in small runs. This is a mutually-beneficial arrangement—our order sizes respect the factory's production capacity and ensure we do not produce more than we can sell.
This makes our product more expensive, but it is how we feel right about doing business.
Production during COVID-19
We picked up our first batch of shirts on March 16th, the day the factory was suspending in-house operations and pivoting to produce medical gear from sewers' homes. While the factory is still able to send us small runs of shirts, from our end we have not cut production during COVID-19 and we have paid all of our bills to the mills and our factory on time and in full. We appreciate your patience as we work to increase our inventory. If there is a specific style/color/size you would like that is not in stock, please use the "email when available" link to let us know and we will make sure to include that in our next factory order.
The following are efforts we have made in our first six months in business. These efforts make our product more expensive, but it is how we feel right about doing business.
We are committed to listening, learning, and continually improving. We'd love to hear what's important to you—please reach out to us at hello@fieldtripbrand.com or you can contact our founder directly at dominique@fieldtripbrand.com.
Small-run production
We produce our shirts in small runs. This is a mutually-beneficial arrangement for us and the factory—our order sizes respect their production capacity and ensure we do not produce more than we can sell.
Reducing fabric waste
We purchase fabric in small amounts. Although this affects our economies of scale—and thus our prices—this helps to reduce potential fabric waste. We aim to use no more than we can sell.
We proactively seek to limit waste in production by laying out the pattern markers in the most efficient way possible.
A portion of our excess fabric is made into fabric samples available for our customers. Remaining fabric scraps are recycled in partnership with Material Return, a North Carolina textile recycling company.
Energy-saving recommended fabric care
Our fabrics are machine- and hand- washable and quick drying (most will air dry in under 1.5 hours). This reduces the energy needed to launder, eliminates the financial and environmental impacts of dry cleaning, and means that you can wash and quickly dry your clothes almost anywhere.
Recycled, reusable, and recyclable packaging
We ship our shirts in 100% recycled poly mailers from Eco Enclose. These packages have two adhesive strips so they can be reused for product returns, or they can be recycled again.
